The Layette Program
Our referral agencies are Manor Field Olsten Family Center, The Dolan Family Health Center, Huntington Hospital, Tri-Community Youth Agency, and Huntington Head Start and Early Head Start.
When we hear about a family who needs a layette, we put together a gift basket that contains at least the following: 3 days of clothing (all washed and folded) 2 bath towels and 4 washcloths 3-4 receiving blankets 6 burp cloths A hand-knitted hat and booties 1 hand-knitted blanket 1 unopened package of newborn diapers 1 package of wipes Petroleum jelly Baby wash and shampoo In the past year, we have given over 15 layettes to Huntington families in need. This would not be possible without the support of the PW and kind donations from individuals like you. Thank you for your support! Donations of items listed above are always welcome! Please leave it with the office during office hours. |
Founded by Helen Weinberger
Helen had been a Huntington resident and Director of Education for the School of Practical Nursing. Although she was married, she and her husband had no children of their own. As a caregiver and educator, she sought to provide others with resources when they had none.
Through the inspiration and efforts of Mrs. Weinberger this mission came to fruition. At the time it was under the direction of the Church Women United which had dissolved sadly some years following her death. The Presbyterian Women of Old First had felt this was a worthy program and as a memorial to her have made every effort to keep this going. We provide layettes to Helping Hands, The Dolan Center and St. Hughes Church. Donations of the listed baby items are always accepted and very much appreciated. |
